hi! newbie here!!! in english!!! from USA !!!

ok - my friend marialena invited me here because i love linux - but i don't speak greek! and i'm in the USA - hope someone here speaks english!

So.. I would like to introduce you my friend Dianna who lives in Austin Texas. I invited her here to join our forum, because she is one of my linux pupils and a very skilled one.
Dianna will write here her impressions from linux mint, her views about open source and of course she will provide us with news from US open sourced people.

i love linux - i have linux mint 8 and marialena was the one who recommended it to me - well actually the other linux mint - but then i liked linux mint so much i upgraded to mint 8.

i've tried ubuntu in the past and much prefer mint because the video codexes come with it and also i like the way it looks and that it is much easier to adjust to your own preferences for me at least...

recently my bf and i decided to put a virtual machine on my computer with windows xp on it. it was fun to do and really interesting to have windows available on here to perhaps play yahoo games LOL but we could never install the video drivers because supposedly you can't install drivers in the virtual machine... so it wouldn't work for games and windows would such a pain in the ass that i got rid of the virtual machine LOL

so anyone here know how to play yahoo games in linux? my bf would really like to play the chess so he can play a real person instead of the computer in linux which he can beat now even on the highest settings!!!

About the virtual machine (windows xp ) if you use virtual box, after the "virtual" boot of windows , open My_computer and you have to make install the additions("install additions" is also an entry to the menu of the virtual box) . After that there is a possibility to run yahoo games on your virtual machine.
Other options : try wine or cross over

now i have to re-install the virtual machine to try it...

also don't forget to mark 3d effects support to the settings of your windows machine and also during the install of "guest additions"

well i will have to try it. right now i'm sick of windows - it was so much trouble - i had forgotten how annoying windows was - and just didn't enjoy the windows at all! linux is so much better.

what versions of linux are you all running?

i have linux mint 8 helena

i hate windows too.

i have MINT 8 HELENA after 23 linux distros that i had tried. I think it's the best.

i have yet to re-install the virtual box because i got tired of windows xp - once you have used linux having to deal with windows is just such a pain... however if i can find some apple software i might reinstall it with apple software instead...

anyone just these virtual boxes? and what do you use them for???

I don't use virtual boxes of any kind.. Thought they supposed to be very convenient for testing new distros, I don't bother to install whatever I want to test in my hard disc, so vb are useless to me. As about windows.. You know my opinion.. ( bliaaahhh).

well, i loved playing with the virtual box - but found windows too horrible to continue even to play yahoo chess ...

so now thinking about perhaps installing ubuntu server on the virtual box - just for fun
